Yeah now that I think about it, but I was never good in math so I subtracted five, but put the fourth letter of the alphabet as the fifth ergo the letter E.  DUH.......

[For Nanci:]  Getting the letter D is obvious because anything multiplied by nine will give you a number with digits adding up to 9 (remember your times tables in second/third grade?) and subtracting five will give you four every time--which is going to always be the D.
